Role Purpose
To deliver engaging Face to Face and online English lessons to learners in Myanmar, supporting the British Council’s mission of promoting quality education and fostering cultural understanding.
Main Accountabilities
As an English Language Teacher, you’ll deliver high-quality lessons that meet learner needs and uphold British Council’s teaching standards. You’ll build strong relationships with students and colleagues, contributing to a positive learning environment and supporting the centre’s wider goals.
You’ll plan and teach engaging lessons, monitor student progress, and provide feedback that encourages learner autonomy. You’ll also collaborate with your team to improve course materials and complete essential administrative tasks to ensure smooth delivery.
We’re looking for someone committed to professional growth and best teaching practices. You’ll help learners connect with UK culture, support excellent customer service, and uphold our values around safeguarding, equality, and safety.
Essentials
Qualifications & Experience
- Proficiency in English, i.e., full mastery of English across all four language skills, equivalent to CEFR Level C2 and IELTS Academic Band IELTS score of 7.5 is required, provided that the Speaking score is 8.0 or above. Candidates must provide a valid IELTS Academic certificate as part of their application demonstrating achievement of the required band scores.
- Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL
- 2 years post-certificate (i.e., CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL) experience
- Experience in teaching relevant age groups:
- Primary aged 6 to 10 (800+ hours)
- Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
- Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (800+ hours)
- University degree
Desirables
- Recognised diploma in EFL i.e., Cambridge DELTA or Trinity Dip TESOL
- CELT-YL extension/TYLEC
- IELTS exam preparation courses (400+ hours)
