About the Course:
The course “Introduction to Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)” aims to give students a broad and inspiring understanding of India's intellectual traditions across fields such as philosophy, science, mathematics, medicine, language, arts, architecture, education, and spirituality. It fosters respect for indigenous knowledge, cultural identity, and relevance of traditional systems in the modern world.
Topics to Be Covered (Sample):
- Vedas, Upanishads & Six Schools of Indian Philosophy
- Indian Linguistics: Panini and Sanskrit
- Ancient Indian Education (Gurukul System)
- Indian Mathematics, Astronomy, and Medicine (Ayurveda)
- Indian Architecture, Art, Music, and Dance
- Trade, Commerce, Arthashastra
- Influence of Indian Thought on Law, Science, and Global Philosophy
Who We Are Looking For:
- Scholars, educators, or passionate practitioners with strong familiarity in one or more domains of Indian knowledge (classical studies, philosophy, language, science, or arts).
- Fluent communicators who can bring ancient concepts alive through stories, case studies, comparative analysis, and relevance to today’s world.
- Prior teaching experience or orientation in IKS, Sanskrit, or cultural studies is preferred.
- Should be open to interdisciplinary teaching and able to engage first-year undergraduates from diverse academic backgrounds.
Eligibility:
- Master's or PhD in Sanskrit, Philosophy, History, Cultural Studies, Ayurveda, Education, or related fields
- OR extensive practical experience in teaching or preserving Indian knowledge systems
- Based in Pune or willing to conduct on-campus classes
Time Commitment:
- 30 one-hour sessions (across the semester)
