Company Description Telos Tutoring is a free peer tutoring nonprofit serving K–8 students across the Bay Area, with a mission to expand access to academic support for younger learners. Founded by students at Milpitas High School, the organization is rooted in community service, mentorship, and student leadership. Telos Tutoring focuses on building strong academic foundations in core subjects while fostering confidence and curiosity in every learner. Tutors collaborate with other volunteers and coordinators to deliver consistent, high-quality support to families at no cost.
Role Description This is a full-time remote Tutor role supporting K–8 students in a variety of academic subjects. The Tutor will plan and deliver engaging one-on-one or small-group virtual sessions, adapting explanations and practice activities to meet each student’s learning style and level. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing class materials, preparing lesson plans or practice problems, tracking student progress, and providing clear feedback to learners and, when appropriate, their parents or caregivers. The Tutor will also collaborate with other tutors and program coordinators to refine instructional approaches, share resources, and maintain consistent schedules. Additional responsibilities may include participating in training, contributing to curriculum resources, and helping improve the overall tutoring experience.
Qualifications
- Strong subject knowledge in K–8 math, reading, writing, and science, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently.
- Demonstrated skills in lesson preparation, organization, and time management to support multiple students effectively.
- Excellent communication and active listening skills, with a supportive, encouraging approach to working with children.
- Comfort with remote learning tools and basic technology (video conferencing, shared documents, online learning platforms).
- Prior tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or youth leadership experience is highly beneficial.
- Commitment to educational equity, reliability in maintaining scheduled sessions, and openness to training and feedback.
- High school diploma required; some college coursework in education, child development, or related fields is a plus.
