In RISM we are looking at the role of a Teaching Assistant, as one who provides support to the course instructor to ensure the effective delivery of the required materials. She/He also fosters a positive learning environment for students helping them gain conceptual clarity.
Given the vast array of possible courses requiring Teaching Assistants at RISM, their individual roles will vary considerably. Each assistantship is tailored to the needs of each specific course and determined by the instructor.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide the Course Instructor with the necessary support for the effective delivery of courseware.
- Assisting faculty with classroom instruction, records, and assignments
- Leading discussion sections
- Meeting with students during office hours
- Conferencing with students individually or in small groups
- Delivering lectures and organising guest lectures with practioners/subject matter experts.
- Leading group projects and group discussions
- Grading assignments or papers
- Managing course communications and courseware
- Recording and calculating grades
- Providing written and formal feedback on assignments
- Managing the examination process end to end.
- Managing attendance & monitoring class participation
- Obtaining and distributing course materials
- Ordering course textbooks and monitoring supply
- Being timely and managing the classroom reliably
- Maintaining a harmonious learning environment
- Encouraging curiosity and independent thinking in the classroom
- Assisting the Teaching faculty to conduct seminars.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s /Master’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Sciences, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry
- Must be fluent in English and display good skills in written English
- Prior Teaching or work experience is an advantage.
- Computer programming and software skills are essential
- Must have excellent organisational skills
- Must be competent in teaching young minds and encouraging them to think Independently
- Must have the ability to work independently and within a team as well.
- Must have analytical and critical thinking and must be inclusive.
- Must always maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- Must be a continuous learner
- Should have good command over the subject matter
- Assist the teaching staff with developing courses
