Position: SY 26-27 Music Teaching Assistant – Winds/Brass
The Conservatory Lab Charter School is looking for a dedicated Music Assistant to support its daily, instrument-focused program. The role requires strong classroom management, musical expertise (especially on cello), and a collaborative approach to instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Partner with the lead teacher to support an optimal learning environment for students.
- Work as a co‑teacher/teaching assistant within the classroom.
- Implement the lead teacher’s lesson plans.
- Utilize a variety of pedagogical approaches to support both large and small group lessons for winds & brass students and mixed‑instrument ensembles.
- Teach, plan, and implement curriculum in conjunction with grade‑level music teachers.
- Create and implement music‑integrated classroom projects in collaboration with the curriculum developer and classroom teachers.
- Use tracking systems to maintain lists of student progress and interventions.
- Supervise student groups as assigned by the schedule.
- Support students in successfully transitioning.
- Help maintain instrument inventory.
- Maintain clean, organized teaching spaces.
- Comply with all professional development requirements.
- Attend all faculty meetings and scheduled staff events.
- Assist teachers with preparation for lessons and breakdown of activities.
- Assist with administrative duties, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess.
- Utilize feedback to reflect on skills and improve performance to support students.
- Substitute for classroom teachers during meetings or professional development as needed.
- Supervise assigned lunch and recess duties.
- Attend and assist with concerts and performances in and out of school, as needed.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching.
Qualifications Required
- Minimum of 2 years of college education.
- Extensive winds & brass experience, especially brass.
- Experience working with children.
- Strong oral communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate closely on a professional team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Flexible and able to work in a fast‑paced, highly demanding environment.
- Ability to work full time on site.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole.
- Experience in an urban school setting.
