Title: Kindergarten Teacher, Alpha – $120,000/year USD

Location: Washington, DC

  • On-site role at an Alpha School campus (Boston, MA
  • Chicago, IL
  • Greenwich, CT
  • Lake Forest, CA
  • Miami, FL
  • Palo Alto, CA
  • Piedmont, CA
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Santa Monica, CA; relocation assistance available)

  • School-year calendar with predictable, structured hours

The most helpful response to a 6-year-old earning 99% is guiding them to 100%—not calling it close enough. If that principle feels uncomfortable, this isn't the right fit. If it feels natural, if you believe children meet the expectations you set for them, this position was designed for you.

Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Academic learning happens through adaptive software that adjusts to each student's level and progresses at their individual pace. No traditional lectures. No identical worksheets distributed to an entire class. Instead, each child engages with personalized learning applications while you—their Guide—support them through the challenging moments: maintaining focus when difficulty increases, working through frustration, and recognizing genuine mastery rather than simple participation.

Your day begins with motivation sessions: analyzing each student's performance in their learning applications, establishing daily objectives, and identifying the most effective approach for each child. That might mean a leaderboard competition, school currency incentives, or a one-on-one conversation about their potential. Afternoons transition to life skills workshops where you facilitate instruction in public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback through interactive, project-based exercises. You'll administer mastery-based evaluations (Test2Pass) where children demonstrate true understanding of each skill, not just exposure to content. Throughout, you're guiding emotional regulation, building resilience, and developing problem-solving abilities with clear structure and genuine care.

Guides who excel here advance to Lead Guide positions, mentoring teams of Guides while continuing direct work with their own cohort. The progression from "I transformed these 15 children's trajectories" to "I'm developing the team that impacts hundreds" is tangible and accessible. If traditional education never appealed to you but you recognize that ages 4 through 7 establish the foundation for everything ahead—apply.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating daily motivation sessions with K-2 students: analyzing Coachbot analytics, establishing personalized objectives, and applying Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, individual coaching) to achieve 100% goal completion
  • Leading one-hour life skills workshops focused on public speaking, concentration, constructive feedback, and time management—all interactive and project-based, aligned with Alpha's curriculum playbook
  • Guiding emotional regulation, resilience, and problem-solving skills in partnership with Reading Specialists who provide literacy instruction
  • Conducting Test2Pass mastery evaluations where students prove internalization of each life skill prior to advancement
  • Developing authentic relationships with every student by understanding their interests, capabilities, and challenges so your coaching feels individualized rather than formulaic

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Teaching academic content from the front of the classroom. Students acquire academics through adaptive applications, not instructor-led lessons.
  • Creating original curriculum materials. Alpha supplies the life skills curriculum and lesson frameworks; your role is to execute them effectively.
  • Advancing students who haven't shown mastery. If they achieved 99%, you guide them to 100%.
  • Supervising children passively while they use computers. Every moment is intentionally structured around active coaching, motivation, and skill development.
  • Handling parent communications or campus-wide logistics. Those responsibilities belong to the Campus Lead.
