Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Japanese Teacher role based in Nishitokyo. The Japanese Teacher will plan, deliver, and assess daily Japanese language lessons for K–9 students, using engaging, student-centered instructional strategies. Responsibilities include designing unit and lesson plans aligned with school standards, differentiating instruction for varied language proficiency levels, and integrating culture to deepen students’ understanding of Japan and the Japanese language. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, participate in school-wide initiatives and meetings, communicate regularly with families about student progress, and contribute to the wider school community through events and extracurricular activities. Ongoing reflection on teaching practice and participation in professional learning are expected.
Qualifications
- Strong Japanese language teaching skills, including lesson planning, classroom instruction, and assessment tailored to diverse learners.
- Ability to design and implement inquiry-driven curriculum.
- Effective classroom management and student support skills, with a focus on creating an inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
- Collaboration and communication skills for working with a multicultural faculty, students, and families in an international school setting.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Japanese Language Education, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Relevant teaching certification or license and prior experience teaching Japanese to school-age learners, ideally in an international or bilingual context.
- Demonstrated commitment to student well-being, intercultural understanding, and the development of global citizenship.
