The IB Homeroom Teacher is responsible for creating a positive, inclusive, and inquiry-based learning environment aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy and framework. The teacher facilitates students' academic, social, emotional, and personal development while fostering international-mindedness, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the IB curriculum and school standards.
- Develop inquiry-based, concept-driven learning experiences that encourage student agency.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
- Integrate transdisciplinary learning opportunities across subject areas.
- Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
- Maintain accurate records of student achievement and provide timely feedback.
Homeroom Responsibilities
- Build a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture.
- Monitor students' academic, emotional, and social well-being.
- Promote positive behaviour through restorative and proactive classroom management strategies.
- Conduct daily attendance and maintain student records.
- Lead homeroom meetings and class activities.
- Support students in developing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
Student Support
- Identify students requiring additional academic or emotional support and collaborate with specialists.
- Encourage student voice, leadership, and responsibility.
- Foster independence, resilience, and collaborative learning.
Parent Communication
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress and well-being.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences and prepare student progress reports.
- Respond professionally and promptly to parent inquiries.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialist teachers, and coordinators.
- Participate actively in collaborative planning meetings.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous school improvement initiatives.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development related to the IB framework and best teaching practices.
- Uphold school policies, safeguarding procedures, and professional ethics.
- Participate in school events, assemblies, exhibitions, field trips, and extracurricular activities as required.
- Reflect on teaching practices and engage in continuous professional growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid teaching qualification or license.
- IB teaching experience or IB professional development certification is preferred.
- Strong understanding of inquiry-based learning and student-centred pedagogy.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
