Role Description

The Early Childhood Educator will work full time on-site at HEI Schools Mauritius in Forbach in the North of Mauritius. This role involves planning and delivering development-appropriate, play-based learning experiences aligned with the HEI Schools curriculum and Finnish educational principles. Daily tasks include guiding children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, observing and documenting progress, and maintaining a safe, nurturing classroom environment. The educator will collaborate with colleagues, communicate regularly with families, and participate in team meetings and professional development. Additional responsibilities include organizing learning materials, supporting school events, and contributing to a positive, inclusive preschool culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Psychology, Child Development, or another closely related field.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience working with children in an early childhood, preschool, or primary education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development and the ability to plan developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support children’s social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic, and physical growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver engaging, child-centred and play-based learning experiences.
  • Experience observing children, documenting their development, preparing progress reports, and adapting learning experiences to individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
  • Excellent spoken and written English. Proficiency in French and/or Mauritian Creole would be an advantage.
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage classroom routines, documentation, learning materials, events, and administrative responsibilities effectively.
  • Creativity and the ability to contribute through music, art, storytelling, movement, nature-based learning, or other expressive and hands-on approaches.
  • A caring, patient, reliable, and inclusive approach, with a strong commitment to children’s wellbeing, independence, and holistic development.
  • Commitment to child-centred, play-based pedagogy and openness to Finnish educational principles, reflective practice, and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, contribute proactively to the wider school community, and support the professional development of fellow educators.
  • Registration with, or eligibility to register with, the relevant Mauritian authorities where applicable.
