Position
Position Summary:
In collaboration with the Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), the Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) provides a safe and nurturing environment and assists in the implementation of the children’s program. The ECA should understand the developmental requirements for the age group they work with and follow applicable standards and pedagogy. This role operates in a team-teaching environment under the direction of the ELC Director and the RECE.

The CDI, Early Learning Centre is seeking five (5) Early Childhood Assistants to join our ELC Team for a Part-time, Contract Floater position for 18 months. The incumbent will assist in implementing the children’s program for the age group assigned, under the guidance of the RECE. This is a 25-hour weekly position (5 hours per day), on-site, daytime schedule, Monday through Friday;
shifts may vary from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Floaters may be required to travel to various offices of the Agency or its affiliates.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children in a safe and healthy environment.
- Update attendance throughout the day and conduct consistent headcounts during all indoor and outdoor transitions.
- Assist the RECE in preparing and setting up program activities.
- Assist with brief observation notes on individual child/children’s behavior and responses to help track developmental needs.
- Welcome families and maintain positive, professional relationships with parents, families, peers and visitors.
- Assist in establishing daily routines and schedules, providing guidance and consistency.
- Ensure consistent behaviour guidance in line with the ELC Behaviour Guidance Policy.
- Discuss and share brief observation notes with the team to inform program plans and learning experiences.
- Assist with day-to-day functions of the classroom in accordance with CCEYA, AQI and TPH.
- Keep the room organized; help older children with cleanup and labeling/organization of materials.
- Maintain records and required documentation as directed by the ELC Director and legislated standards.
- Assist with opening and closing of the Centre when an RECE is on staff.
- Participate in supervision as required by agency policy and pursue ongoing professional development.
- Perform housekeeping duties as assigned by the ELC Director.
- Report any signs of child abuse to the Children’s Aid Society and inform the ELC Director of illnesses, injuries and absenteeism with proper documentation.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned.
What you bring
- Early Childhood Assistant certificate, equivalent experience, or currently enrolled in an ECE program.
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate.

- Dedicated and flexible team player able to interact with team members at all levels of the agency.

Compensation
This is a unionized position under CUPE, paying $34,961 per annum and pro-rated based on the length of the contract.
