Contribute to educational success at Qualicum School District as a Registered Visual Language Interpreter at Springwood Elementary. Provide vital interpreting services to deaf and hard of hearing students to support their learning.
The role involves interpretation for classroom and school activities, ensuring effective communication between students and staff. You will report to the Principal and work closely with the District Principal, Learning. Required skills include proficiency in American Sign Language and experience in the educational field.
Key Responsibilities:
• Interpret spoken English to American Sign Language accurately
• Facilitate communication between students and staff
• Support educational activities through interpreting
• Participate in Individual Education Plan meetings
• Prepare for various interpreting situations
Requirements:
• Completion of a recognized 2-year Interpreter Training Program
• Over 6 months of interpreting experience
• Membership with CASLI and WAVLI
• Understanding of Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners
• Ability to work flexible hours when needed
