REPORTS TO:  

Head of Upper School

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working closely with the Head of the Upper School, Fine Arts Department Chair, and Fine Arts Department colleagues, this teaching artist will teach four to six visual arts courses each semester and, in so doing, work to support and integrate the mission of the school into the daily visual art curriculum, ignite a passion for art in Collegiate students, and strive to connect art-making to a broader world view.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a specific medium or concentration of visual art is required; an advanced degree is preferred
  • Classroom experience teaching foundational components of 2D/3D Visual Art 
  • Experience and facility in Digital Media, Mixed Media, and Sculpture 
  • A demonstrated passion for  instruction and school students
  • Ability to integrate technology, use innovative curricula, and employ best pedagogical practices
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of upper school students
  • Ability to differentiate instruction when necessary to reach all levels of learners
  • Collaborative spirit in developing curricula and teaching methods, both within the department and across other disciplines
  • Flexibility, optimism, creativity, high expectations, and a growth mindset
  • Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom
  • Proven positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and families
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Understanding of independent schools preferred

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUIRED:

  • Collect and enter annual submissions to The Scholastic Arts Competition
  • Serve as faculty advisor for approximately ten upper school students
  • Serve as a member of the Fine Arts Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
  • Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
  • Serve as the faculty sponsor for the Upper School Art Honor Society
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
