Position Overview
Project AI SCORE, housed within the Life Span Institute, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate student to support a variety of tasks related to content creation, data preparation, and digital media.
Project AI SCORE is a federally funded initiative through the Life Span Institute at the University of Kansas. It uses AI tools to support middle school students with learning disabilities by providing real-time writing feedback, helping educators and families guide development, and promoting independent writing through digital progress monitoring.
Job Description
50% – Research Activities
- Assist with basic data organization and analysis (training provided).
- Review and edit transcripts for clarity and accuracy.
- Article retrieval.
- Library research tasks.
- Collaborate with team members while also working independently on assigned tasks.
50% – Media
- Create/edit educational video content using Camtasia or similar tools.
- Design social media graphics using Canva or similar tools.
- Create/edit documents.
- Transfer content from documents into a standardized PDF template.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- Excellent communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as evidenced by application materials.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, as evidenced by application materials.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), as evidenced by application materials.
- Basic video editing skills (Camtasia preferred), as evidenced by application materials.
- Interest in learning data analysis techniques, as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Creative thinker with initiative and a passion for education, as evidenced by application materials.
- Quick learner who can adapt to new tools and processes, as evidenced by application materials.
- Committed to the mission and values of the Life Span Institute and Project AI SCORE, as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience with K-12 teaching (particularly special education) or research environments, as evidenced by application materials.
- Familiarity with Qualtrics, as evidenced by application materials.
- Eligible for Federal Work Study.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
