Job Summary
The Undergraduate Learning and Research Librarian works collaboratively and in partnership with colleagues who empower student success and faculty excellence. The ULR librarian advances the University’s and Libraries’ strategic plans by fostering excellence in research, scholarship, teaching, and learning through impactful engagement and outreach. This position is a part of the Undergraduate Learning and Research Unit within the Reference, Instruction, and Open Education (RIO) Department and reports to the Manager for Undergraduate Learning and Research.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Functional Role
- Develops, designs, and creates scaffolded instructional content in the form of workshops, presentations, and digital learning objects in collaboration with colleagues in the Undergraduate Learning and Research and Undergraduate Success Units and across the Libraries to meet the information, media, and data literacy needs of undergraduate students and faculty.
- Delivers essential library instruction and information literacy sessions and workshops and cultivates partnerships with faculty, staff, and administration to integrate the Libraries’ services and resources in curricula and research projects.
- Researches and implements best practices for the design and creation of teaching and online learning resources such as online modules, instructional videos, and online guides.
- Contributes to the standards for information literacy instruction for librarians and implements sustainable processes for iterative improvements in response to emerging needs and trends.
- Utilizes data from various sources to strategize outreach efforts and identify opportunities for partnerships.
- Supports and promotes the Outreach and Open Education & Research Mavs teams in targeted outreach.
College Team Role
- Collaborates with other College Liaison Librarians as defined in the College Liaison Program document.
- Develops and maintains subject specialization and teaching expertise to provide instructional and consultation support to assigned college(s).
- Assesses need for and creates sustainable digital learning objects.
- Conducts strategic outreach including attending faculty meetings and distributing library communications.
- Contributes to the timely collection of data for program and organizational assessment.
Professional Development
- Contributes to the fields of librarianship and higher education and their own professional development through service, research, presenting, and publishing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Familiarity with digital learning tools and applications, as well as educational technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience in teaching or instructional design, or equivalent coursework.
- Experience creating digital learning objects that meet accessibility guidelines.
- Track record of participation in or development of innovative academic literacy programs, particularly those that use technology to enhance student learning and/or success.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of information literacy standards, frameworks, and best practices.
- Strong understanding of multiple literacies, open scholarship, and e-learning pedagogy.
- Ability to teach both groups and individuals effectively in person and online.
- Knowledge of a range of digital scholarship tools, technologies, and platforms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization.
