Role Description The SAT/ ACT Tutor role is a part-time, remote position focused on preparing students for the SAT or ACT through individualized instruction. ** Local applicants are eligible to work in-person and implement a hybrid model of both remote and in-person sessions. Clients will be in 10th-12th grade. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing student strengths and areas for growth, planning targeted lessons in math and evidence-based reading and writing, and teaching test-taking strategies and time management. The tutor will assign and review practice tests, track progress using data, and adjust instruction based on student performance and learning style. The role also involves clear communication with students and families, maintaining accurate records of sessions, and collaborating with the Beacon Learning team to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
Qualifications
- Strong SAT content knowledge in math, reading, and writing, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt instruction to different learning styles.
- Experience or training in tutoring, teaching, or academic coaching, ideally with students preparing for standardized tests such as the SAT or ACT.
- Expetience tutoring or teaching students in high school.
- Familiarity with learning differences (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia) and executive functioning challenges, and comfort using accommodations or strategies that support diverse learners.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and build supportive relationships with students and families.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including consistent scheduling, lesson planning, and documentation in a remote environment.
- Proficiency with online teaching tools and platforms (video conferencing, digital whiteboards, shared documents) for remote instruction.
- Bachelor’s degree required in education, mathematics, English, psychology, or a related field; prior tutoring or classroom experience is required.
