Reporting Relationship

The Staff Trainer will report directly to the Director of Health and Wellness Department and will ensure that internal working relationships are developed with all Departments within M’Chigeeng First Nation.

Position Summary

The Staff Trainer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering training programs that support the capacity and professional development of employees within the Health and Wellness Department. The Staff Trainer serves as a departmental training resource, develops annual training plans and associated budgets, and monitors training outcomes to ensure alignment with departmental goals and community needs.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure all M’Chigeeng First Nation protocols and Bylaws are adhered to, and program activities are conducted in accordance with recommendations and policies as set by Chief & Council.
  • Incorporate and promote Anishnabek cultural values, beliefs and practices and Anishinabemowin into program and training delivery.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and culturally safe team environment.
  • Design, develop, and deliver training programs for all service areas within the Health and Wellness Department.
  • Participate in external training opportunities and function as a “train-the-trainer” to bring new curriculum and certifications into the department.
  • Adapt training content to ensure cultural relevance, accessibility, and alignment with the Health and Wellness department.
  • Facilitate both in-person and virtual training sessions, workshops, and orientations.
  • Collaborate with Health and Wellness management staff to identify annual training needs and priorities.
  • Develop and present annual training plans that align with departmental strategic goals.
  • Coordinate training schedules, venues, registration, and communications.
  • Maintain organized training records, attendance data, and certification tracking.
  • Develop annual training budgets in collaboration with management and teams.
  • Monitor approved training expenditures to ensure alignment with allocated budgets.
  • Prepare quarterly written reports for the Director of Health and Wellness summarizing training activities, outcomes, and recommendations.
  • Identify funding opportunities, grants, or cost sharing options to enhance training capacity.
  • Work closely with all service teams within the department to support continuous improvement and skill development.
  • Consult with external training providers, partners, and agencies to bring relevant programming to the community.
  • Support Managers and Supervisors in ensuring staff maintain required certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid, mental health training, regulatory requirements).
  • Maintain secure and accurate training files, digital resources, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, professional standards, and funding agreements.
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation programming for new staff.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and workforce development initiatives.
  • Ensure culturally appropriate approaches are embedded in all aspects of training curriculum and delivery.
  • Maintain accurate program-level records, statistics, and training reports for the Health and Wellness Department.
  • Prepare quarterly summaries on training delivery, trends, and program concerns.
  • Assist with budget oversight, resource allocation, and identification of training needs.
  • Participate in community events, workshops, and prevention initiatives.
  • Practice strict confidentiality, privacy, ethical and non-bias approaches.
  • Identify appropriate internal and external resources to meet the training needs for the Health and Wellness Department in the provision of services to children, youth and families.
