Toddler Teacher Position

Job Description

Seeking high energy, self-motivated individual to fill the position of Toddler Teacher for two positions. This position will be assisting other toddler teachers and will work with toddlers ranging in ages from 1 years old to two years old over different classroom environments but should be prepared to work with other groups as needed due to the needs of the facility and ratios at times. Full-time hours for the Toddler Teacher Position is Monday through Friday and scheduled shift hours are 830-530 and may vary at times due to needs of the facility and families we serve.

Summary of Responsibilities: In a center-based early childhood classroom, the teacher is responsible for managing all aspects of services planning, coordination, record keeping, problem-solving, and communication to ensure delivery of quality early childhood education program in compliance with all applicable regulations for enrolled children and families.

Responsibilities and Duties

Duties and Responsibilities: Implement the Creative Curriculum in an assigned classroom, including any type of required individualized plans for children. Develop and utilize integrated, developmentally appropriate, and comprehensive curriculum plans that reflect mandated elements and parental and cultural influences and that promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of preschool children. Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for all children. Create an emotionally responsive, caring, positive, and accepting environment supportive of the individual development of each child and family. Be familiar with Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG) standards, Florida Department of Education (FDOE) Early Learning Standards, Florida Department of Children and Families (FDCF) licensing standards, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards, the Creative Curriculum and Work Sampling; provide classroom services in compliance with all these standards at all times. Manage and facilitate classroom planning meetings,and attend or facilitate other group meetings as assigned by center director or coordinators, practicing effective meeting management procedures that encourage constructive problem solving and the sharing of ideas. Facilitate collaboration, problem-solving, and team development with other programs at the site and staff from other programs. Coordinate the use of resources (center, staff, organization, and community) toward the goal of providing quality early childhood education services to children and families. Safeguard the health and safety of all children and staff by consistently implementing policies and procedures in the classroom/center, decisively addressing problems when they occur, and maintaining records/reports. Involve parents in all aspects of quality early childhood education services, including but not limited to regular communications, both written and verbal, parent/teacher conferences, home visits, and family events. Provide opportunities for parents to participate in or provide input into early childhood education services in general and their child’s growth and development specifically. Supervise assigned staff, volunteers, and student teachers/student interns, and conduct annual performance evaluations of supervisees. Assist assigned staff, and work with supervisor yourself, to identify/reflect on growth areas, develop annual training plans, develop professional development goals, and complete Professional Developmental Records. Support ongoing training in staff meetings. Actively work with a supervisor, providing recommendations for personnel actions involving assigned staff, including recommendations for hiring and firing. Accept supervision and the input and guidance of management staff other than your direct supervisor. Provide effective leadership to staff, and coordinate classroom services within the larger center facility, practicing ethical communication and constructive problem solving toward the resolution of conflicts and challenges. Ensure that all necessary records and reports are generated and maintained in a timely fashion or by the required deadline. Assist management staff with program/center evaluations, goal setting, and other satisfaction and program assessment tools. Ensure that the overall functioning of the center in coordination with other headteachers and the absence of the center director. Assign and monitor custodial duties, maintenance, snack planning, and preparation. Supervise, assist, and support assistant teachers as they problem-solve planning, classroom management, or parent concerns. Conduct informal follow-up observations and formal classroom observations, sign off on plans, review curriculum implementation, and assist classroom teams with classroom/curriculum goal setting. In coordination with the center directors or supervising coordinator, organize staff schedules, including arranging substitutes as needed. Coordinate/delegate maintaining and updating of classroom areas, learning centers, and room arrangements. Be responsible for general classroom and site appearance. Use computers and other technological supports for communications, reporting, recordkeeping, and research; assist other staff in the use of technology. Actively participate in program evaluation and the Continuous Quality Improvement Process at the classroom, center, and organizational levels. Participate in professional development to continuously improve job skills as per best practices in early childhood education. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or upper management coordinators/directors.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of required DCF training. (If DCF Training is not done prior to hiring this will be required to be done within 90 days of employment but OEL 20 hours course must be done prior to starting)

Preferred Requirements: AA/AS in early childhood education or related field/FCCPC or National CDA with one year of experience in early childhood education programs. (having these items places at the higher end of the pay scale)
