Harland Education is hiring experienced subject specialists for ongoing 1-on-1 teaching positions in Taipei. We're a tutoring academy serving international school families across Asia, with students currently in eight countries. Founded in 2019, our pedagogy is Content Learning: real subject content as the vehicle for English instruction.
Harland is built around the people who teach in it. Here's what working here is actually like:
You teach the subject you trained in. Science teachers teach science, math teachers teach math, English teachers teach literature and composition. Students are matched to your specialty, not handed to whoever has an open hour.
You teach a structured curriculum. K-8 is anchored to US Common Core standards; high school work moves into IB, AP, and exam-prep pathways as students progress. The progression and assessment scaffolding is already in place; you're not inventing the syllabus from scratch each week. Lesson-level pedagogy is yours; the structure is built.
Lessons are 1-on-1, in person in Taipei or online from anywhere, on the same platforms either way.
The work is mostly teaching. Prep and assessment are part of the role, with real time and structure around them. Admin and most parent communication are handled by our ops team, not pushed onto teachers. When teachers need cover, we use our own faculty rather than outside substitutes.
There's room for work outside the classroom. Paid non-teaching hours support roles in curriculum development, peer mentoring, and faculty leadership for teachers who want them. Teaching is the core of the work, but it isn't the only thing you do.
You work alongside other subject specialists who take the work seriously. The colleague in the next room teaches the way you teach. There's a faculty here, not a roster of contractors.
You're teaching kids who want to be there. We turn down students whose attitude or respect for the work isn't aligned, regardless of academic level.
Long-term student relationships. Our teachers stay with their students for years rather than terms. The work goes deeper because you actually know your students.
Compensation above local market for experienced specialists. We support faculty with the conditions, growth, and compensation that experienced teachers expect. Specific figures are part of the conversation post-application.
What we look for:
– Subject-specialist teaching experience: international school faculty, experienced tutors, or equivalent professional teaching backgrounds
– A teaching credential or degree in the subject you'd teach
– Willingness to commit to long-term student relationships
– Subject seriousness over teaching-as-stopgap
