Teaching Specialist or Lecturer (part‑time) in African American & African Studies for the 2025/2026 academic year at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
Salary
Teaching Specialists: $5,000–$8,000 per course;
Lecturers: $6,000–$9,000 per course.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate or graduate courses as assigned.
- Hold office hours to assist and advise students.
- Participate in relevant departmental meetings and service.
- Turn in grades and student evaluations.
- Respond to student and department inquiries.
- Submit an activity report and attend required meetings.
- Engage in program development and continuous learning opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Humanities, or Social Sciences required for Teaching Specialist appointment.
- Ph.D. required for Lecturer appointment.
- Two years of post‑secondary teaching experience in the relevant or related field.
- Demonstration of commitment to quality teaching and program development.
- Strong English language communication skills.
- For Spanish for Special Purposes courses, other relevant professional degrees will be considered (e.g., Master’s in Public Health for an instructor of a Medical Spanish course).
Preferred Qualifications
- Positive evaluations from students, peers, and/or supervisors.
- Prior teaching experience at the same or similar course level.
- Demonstrated success with teaching, organization, collaboration, and mentoring students.
