Company: The Bond Creative Advancement Project
Location: Los Angeles Metropolitan Area
JOB DESCRIPTION
Playwriting Instructor — Summer Youth PlayLab
The Bond Creative Advancement Project x Huron Station Playhouse
Los Angeles, CA | In Person | Paid Opportunity 6-7K
The Bond Creative Advancement Project is proud to partner with Huron Station Playhouse on its inaugural Summer PlayLab, an immersive youth theater program for students ages 15–18.
Hosted at Huron Station Playhouse in Cypress Park, Los Angeles, a state registered historic landmark and former trolley substation from the 1900s, the Summer PlayLab invites young writers into the world of live theater—where imagination, language, collaboration, and personal voice come together on stage. Students will explore how stories are built, how characters speak, how scenes take shape, and how their own ideas, questions, humor, and lived experiences can become compelling theatrical work.
Founded by Alden Ehrenreich and Julie Cohn, Huron Station Playhouse was created out of a belief in the importance of live theater in an increasingly digital and AI-driven age. Rooted in imagination, human connection, presence, and artistic risk-taking, Huron is committed to creating space for artists and audiences to gather around the unique power of live performance.
We are currently seeking Playwriting Instructors / Teaching Artists in the Los Angeles area who are excited to help teenagers discover the power of their voices through theater. This role is ideal for playwrights who love working with young people and believe teen writers have something urgent, original, and necessary to say.

- Be available July through August
- Be available to work in person Monday through Friday, approximately 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., during the program period
- Guide and lead a classroom of 20+ high school students in creating original theatrical work from idea to draft
- Teach the fundamentals of playwriting, including character, dialogue, conflict, and structure in a youth setting
- Create a supportive environment that encourages creative risk-taking, revision, and collaboration
- Collaborate with acting faculty to prepare student-written work for a final public showcase
- Develop a youth oriented playwriting curriculum
Considered candidates will have:
- 3-4 years experience in curriculum development, teaching playwriting, and storytelling to high school age youth ages 15–18 in an educational setting of 20+ students
- 3-4 year of artistic practice as a playwright, theater artist, dramaturg, and director, or educator
- 3–4 years of experience developing original plays for live performance, including work that has been produced, prepared for showcase, or brought from page to stage
- A generous, mentorship-driven approach to working with young writers
- A belief in theater as a space for imagination, courage, collaboration, and connection
- The ability to meet students where they are while helping them grow in craft and confidence
- 10–15 pages of an original play sample
PLEASE NOTE THAT CANDIDATES WHOSE EXPERIENCE IS EXCLUSIVELY IN SCREENWRITING WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. CANDIDATES MUST ALSO EMAIL THEIR WRITING SAMPLES OR ATTACH THEM TO THEIR RESUME FILES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE. SCREENPLAYS WILL NOT BE ACCPETED
This is a paid opportunity As this program is being developed within a nonprofit context, we are especially interested in faculty who are inspired by the chance to make a lasting impact on young theater makers—not only by teaching craft, but by helping students understand that their stories, perspectives, and voices belong in the room and on the stage.
Salary: $200-300/day over a 5 week period
