Summary
Under the general supervision of the principal, head secretary, department head or other supervisor, the teacher assistant assists the teacher with the conduct of a class. The assistance takes a variety of forms, such as preparing class materials, correcting and recording assignments, and a wide variety of other services. Main duties will be to help refugee students successfully engage with the American educational system through collaboration with multiple schools, teachers, administrators, and interpreters and be an advocate for refugee students.

Classified position is announced to all qualified applicants until filled. Teacher Assistant // 3.9 hrs p/day // 9 months // Salary Grade 3 – $15.95 per hour (Support Salary Table 2024-25) GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the principal, head secretary, department head or other supervisor, the teacher assistant assists the teacher with the conduct of a class. The assistance takes a variety of forms, such as preparing class materials, correcting and recording assignments, and a wide variety of other services. Main duties will be to help refugee students successfully engage with the American educational system through collaboration with multiple schools, teachers, administrators, and interpreters and be an advocate for refugee students. NOTE: APPLICANT WILL WORK IN THE FEDERAL PROGRAMS DEPARTMENT. THIS POSITION INVOLVES WORK WITH THE REFUGEE PROGRAM ASSISTING STUDENTS WITH MEETING EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 1. To assist Refugee Family Advocates in meeting with refugee students. 2. To assist with communication between refugee students, counselors, schools. 3. To assist refugee students with credit deficits and credit recovery. 4. To assist with the maintenance and updates to the refugee database. 5. To assist in aiding students in having appropriate clothing, school supplies and transportation. 6. To assist in delivering UTA bus passes. Educational Requirements: 1. High School graduation or equivalent education and/or experience. Knowledge & Ability: 1. Basic office/secretarial skills. 2. Strong communication skills to facilitate collaboration with school personnel and interpreters.
