Overview: Arizona Spellers’ Academy (AZSA) is seeking a compassionate and adaptable Teacher Assistant to join our dynamic team. As a Teacher Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for neurodiverse students, including those who communicate through spelling.

About the Role:
- Salary: $36,000 – $39,000 annually, with benefits
- Full-time position: Monday through Thursday (8:00 AM to 3:00 PM) and Fridays (8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, some virtual)
- Work Environment: You will work with students in small groups (up to 5 students), providing academic and emotional support for neurodiverse learners, including children with autism and other neurological differences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students by helping them develop their academic potential, including fostering learning and emotional regulation through various strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers & therapists to meet students’ educational, social, emotional, and physical needs.
- Presume competence in every student, ensuring they feel respected and encouraged to learn.
- Assist in the development of a positive, inclusive, and active classroom atmosphere.
- Provide motor and regulation support through training and strategies.
- Supervise students both in the classroom and during field trips.
- Help maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment.
- Participate in school meetings, team collaboration, and extracurricular activities.
Training & Development:
- AZSA provides comprehensive training, including live and virtual sessions, on topics such as:
- Letterboard skills
- Sensory and motor differences
- Communication methods and body coaching
- Ethical practices in education
- Ongoing professional development is offered throughout the year.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Prior experience working with neurodiverse children or individuals with communication differences is preferred, but not required.
- Passion for working with students in a non-traditional educational setting.
- Ability to adapt, learn new techniques, and be an active, engaged participant in student development.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with teachers and parents.
