Course number and title: MIE1721S – Reliability

Course description: The goal of the course is to introduce students to principles of reliability from a practical point of view. The course covers principles of quality, principles of reliability, reliability of systems, failure rate data and models, quality and reliability in design and manufacturing, and reliability and availability in maintenance including cost models. Some other topics could be covered, depending on timing. A moderate knowledge of probability and statistics is a requirement.

Salary: $15,000 (per half course inclusive of vacation pay) Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications: Applicants should have a strong record of presenting lectures or acting as a teaching assistant. Applicants must be able to demonstrate considerable depth of knowledge and experience in the subject area. All applicants should have excellent communication skills – both oral and written. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Limited License (LEL) is strongly preferred. Engineering Intern (EIT) is also acceptable.

Description of duties: Preparation of lectures and course materials; delivery of lectures; supervision of Teaching Assistants; setting and marking of tests and exams; evaluation of final grades; contact with students.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
