Position Purpose & Overview
The role of Senior School Associate Teacher and Experiential Learning Coordinator will be split between these two main roles. The successful candidate will have a teaching workload as a Senior School Associate Teacher and is expected to work in their other role as Experiential Learning Coordinator.
The Senior School Associate Teacher will be a collaborative member of the Senior School and will contribute to the development of the curriculum and teaching experiences chers at SJS are expected to exemplify excellent professional practice and high standards of teaching and learning. The teacher will provide inclusive learning opportunities differentiated to the needs, abilities and stage of development of each student.
The successful candidate will be adept at monitoring, measuring, documenting, and reporting on learning.
The Experiential Learning Coordinator role is a leadership role within the school supporting all aspects of the SJS Experiential Learning Program and ensuring consistency of activities related to the program. This role encompasses the following main areas of the school’s lived curriculum:
- Co‑ordinating the Co‑curricular program across the school,
- Co‑ordinating, executing and facilitating the development of the Outdoor Education and Experiential Learning Programs across the school with the Senior School Vice‑Principal of Student Life,
- Contributing to the school’s risk management program as it relates to excursions, experiences, and other student activities,
- Facilitating experiential learning opportunities to promote wellness, and
- Building connections for and supporting the development of experiential learning opportunities within the curriculum across the school.
Key Responsibilities
Typical Senior School Associate Teacher responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Endorse the school’s mission, vision, and values.
- Model respectful and timely communication with students, colleagues, and parents, in line with the school’s Mutual Respect Policy.
- Provide coverage from Grade 6 to Grade 12 in the MYP and DP programme, including specialist areas such as French, Art, PE, and Music as appropriate.
- Provide personalized instruction and learning support for individual students as a coverage teacher, co‑teaching alongside subject teachers as appropriate, and through working with the learning support team with in‑class learning support.
- Establish a day‑to‑day connection and sense of belonging with students and colleagues.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers supporting areas such as curriculum planning, differentiated instruction and assessment when co‑teaching and working with learning support.
- Collaborate effectively as part of a team of dedicated professionals who embrace school values of courage, creativity, and citizenship.
- Attend professional development programmes, participate in on‑campus professional learning, attend professional meetings which relate to curricular, administrative, or organisational matters as required, and attend relevant meetings as scheduled by the Head of Department, Curriculum Coordinators, and Senior Leadership Team.
- Engage or offer co‑curricular activity(ies) for Senior School students.
- Create a safe, effective, challenging, ethical, and organised learning environment.
- Practice a universal design for learning approach to teaching, providing differentiated instruction for all learners to establish an inclusive learning environment.
- Maintain relevant understanding of and be active in using appropriate and effective technology to enhance instruction and learning.
- Demonstrate reliability in and understanding of implementation of risk and student management strategies.
