The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We have a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunity for a Senior Lecturer to make significant impact and develop their career in teaching, research, and service.

We are open to candidates with expertise and knowledge across areas relevant to our School and are particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to teaching, research, and supervision in our Hospitality/Gastronomy/Events programmes. Professional experience and knowledge in the Hospitality/Events/Gastronomy sectors are desirable. A PhD qualification and a desire to develop a research and teaching career are key to this position.

We embrace practice-led, research-informed approaches to teaching. Your contributions to programme and course development will support our continuous improvement focus. You will teach across programmes assigned by the Head of School and be comfortable using digital resources to enhance learning. It is expected that you will actively publish in your specialised field (s). We offer an excellent research environment with access to contestable research funds and guidance from senior scholars. It is also expected that over time, the successful candidate will seek and attract external research funding, engage with government, business, professional bodies, and the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

Criteria

  • Qualification/Knowledge and Experience:
    • A PhD qualification in related field/fields
  • Teaching:
    • An early career academic will ideally have at least some previous teching assistant experience.
    • More experienced candidates will have previous lecturing experience, evidence of curriculum development and preferably experience supervising Master's and/or PhD students.
  • Research:
    • An early-career academic will have the basis of a solid research pipeline.
    • More experienced candidates will already have a more established research programme and a proven research track record with quality publications and ideally also success in external funding bids.
    • Evidence of securing or contributing to external research income is desirable.
