About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support primary‑aged pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and build confidence within the classroom.
The school primarily supports children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and learning difficulties.
Responsibilities
- Support primary‑aged pupils with additional needs in classroom activities
- Assist pupils in engaging with learning and building confidence
- Facilitate positive relationships and social development
- Implement behaviour management and de‑escalation strategies
- Provide 1:1 support for individual pupils as required
- Collaborate with the teaching and support staff to deliver tailored interventions
- Ensure pupils’ safety and uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures
About the School
This welcoming specialist SEND school in Skelmersdale supports approximately 50 primary‑aged pupils, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Working Hours & Pay
• Full‑time position
• Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 4:00pm
• Long‑term role starting September
• Pay from £14.25 per hour
• Excellent opportunity to secure a permanent contract
Candidate Requirements
- Experience supporting children in a school, SEND, SEMH or care setting
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Experience managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
- Knowledge of behaviour management and de‑escalation techniques
- Team Teach or similar de‑escalation training (desirable but not essential)
- Resilient, patient, and proactive approach
- Strong work ethic and full‑time availability

Axcis Education is an employment agency offering temporary supply work for daily, short‑term and long‑term assignments in addition to permanent positions.
You must be suitably qualified for the advertised position and be prepared to attend a face‑to‑face interview with Axcis to demonstrate your suitability.
Salary / Pay Rate will be dependent on your skills and experience.
