Position: Program Access Support Year-Round Intermittent/Seasonal

Do you have a passion for working with people with disabilities? If you answered yes, the Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation has exciting year‑round part‑time employment opportunities for you! Disability Services supports participants to learn, engage, and have fun in childcare programs, classes, special events, and recreation activities. Work opportunities are available on different days and times throughout Prince George’s County.

Under Title II of the ADA, Program Access supports people with disabilities to participate in classes, childcare programs, and special events. Childcare programs are generally 9:00 am‑12:00 pm (Pre‑School) or 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm (Kids’ Care/Kids’ Club) on weekdays. Classes and special events mostly occur in the evenings and weekends, although select daytime opportunities are available. Program locations and assignments are subject to change based on program needs.

To thrive in this position, you must be willing to actively participate in all program activities, assist with the adaptation of activities, and help facilitate social interaction between participants. Effectively communicating with supervisors, staff, participants, and parents/guardians is extremely important. All selected candidates must provide excellent customer service and must maintain confidentiality regarding disability, medical, and personal information.

Ideal candidates will have experience working in recreation programs, working in childcare or education programs, or supporting children or adults with disabilities. Starting positions and pay rates are based on age and previous experience.

Program Access Position Locations by Team

Opportunities are available at various Northern, Countywide, and Southern Area locations throughout Prince George’s County.

  • Northern (Laurel, Hyattsville, Largo among others)
  • Countywide (Sports and Learning Complex in Landover and Fairland Sports and Aquatics in Laurel)
  • Southern (Upper Marlboro, Temple Hills, Ft. Washington among others)

Inclusion Aide $16.75 – $17.25

Provide support to individuals with disabilities to be included in general recreational programs with their peers. Actively participate in all program activities, assist with the adaptation of activities, and help facilitate social interactions. Advocates for the full inclusion of participants within the program. Must have a desire and interest in working with people with disabilities. Minimal related experience required. Minimum age 16.

Support Staff I $17.75 – $18.25

Provides support to individuals with disabilities to be included in general recreational programs with their peers. Actively participates in all program activities, assists with the adaptation of activities, and helps to facilitate social interactions. Advocates for the full inclusion of participants within the program. Minimum age 18. Requires high school diploma and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or two or more years of work‑related disability experience.

Support Staff II $19.25 – $19.75

Provides support to individuals with disabilities to be included in general recreational programs with their peers. Maintains documentation and implements behavior plans as needed. Advocates for the full inclusion of participants within the program. Minimum age 19. Requires two years of college in related field and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or four or more years of related disability experience.

Support Staff III $20.75 -$21.75

Provides support to individuals with disabilities to be included in general recreational programs with their peers. Assists in development of behavior management plans; implements behavior management plans and provides documentation as required. Conducts sensitivity awareness activities and training on site as required. Advocates for the full inclusion of participants within the program. Requires four years of college in a related field or two years of college plus three years of experience working with persons with disabilities or six or more years of related disability experience.
