Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for the teaching of: SOSA 3105.03 Media and Society, Tuesdays and Thursdays 1135-1255 (Winter term 2027).

This course provides an introductory overview to the theoretical and practical issues that concern media and society. It examines contemporary theories of mass communications and popular culture and engages the political economy of media, their impact on audiences, and the role they play in the political process.

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test preparation, evaluation and electronic submission of grades. The instructor is required to be available two hours per week for consultation with students. The instructor reports to the Chair of the Department.

Please note this is an in-person course.

Qualifications/Requirements Of Position

Applicants must possess a PhD in Social/Cultural Anthropology and have previous University level teaching experience directly in the subject area.

All offers of employment as a part-time academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.

Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
