Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching: SLWK 5110 Africentric Perspectives in Social Work. The course will be offered in the Winter Term, from January-April 2027. This is an online course and part of the MSW program.
Course description: The course provides students with an opportunity to engage in critical dialogue, reflection and action about historical and contemporary experiences of African Nova Scotians and Africans in the Diaspora. The course also focuses on awareness of Africentric theory, and its application in social work practice with Africans and non-Africans.
The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures, grading of assignments, and online consultation with students. Online courses are taught using Brightspace. In addition, the part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparations for one-two months preceding course delivery.
Qualifications/Requirements Of Position
Knowledge of historical and contemporary experiences of African Nova Scotians and Africans in the Diaspora. Awareness of Africentric theory, and its application in social work practice with Africans and non-Africans. A Master of Social Work degree, or higher, and previous teaching experience.
Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
