Temporary Part-Time 0.7 FTE Kindergarten Teacher

Elm Street School is seeking applications for a temporary part-time kindergarten teacher to join their team and school community from August 27, 2026, to December 18, 2027. Candidates must have completed a Bachelor of Education degree and hold a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.

Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualities and skills:

  • A background in Early Childhood/Inclusive Education
  • Understand the Science of Reading (UFLI, Heggerty)
  • Ability to provide developmentally appropriate activities in literacy and numeracy
  • Commitment to play based learning
  • Programming experience for children with complex needs
  • Experience with Individual Support Plans
  • Positive Behavior Supports
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Have strong communication with the necessary stakeholders on student's ongoing progress and speak to how they communicate efforts to all stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively with Educational Assistants
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of service providers
  • Strong team player who will contribute to a positive school culture
  • Engage parents and create healthy relationships with students and colleagues

Skills

As this position also supplements programming within the school, preference will be given to applicants with the additional qualities and skills:

  • Upper elementary science and social studies curriculum knowledge
  • Music curriculum knowledge

Elm Street School is an elementary school in Medicine Hat, serving approximately 120 students from ELP to Grade 6. Elm Street School maintains an Inclusive mindset where all students belong, feel safe, and have ongoing opportunities to learn.
