Position Summary
The UHN STEM Pathways program invites a Youth Outreach Coordinator I to facilitate K-12 outreach activities, including tours, panels, workshops, and classroom visits. Working under the direction of the UHN STEM Pathways Manager, the Coordinator will support in‑person and virtual programming, coordinate volunteers, and manage communications.
Duties
- Support all in-person and virtual programming facilitated by the outreach team
- Develop and deliver outreach events, including career panels, classroom visits, and on‑site lab tours
- Supervise, support, and guide students in experiential learning opportunities
- Assist with the coordination of volunteers, including recruitment strategies, team training, and ongoing electronic communications
- Prepare and share program communications for social media, newsletters, emails, and reports
- Develop new STEM and research‑focused workshops for K-12 students
- Liaise with educators and local community groups to grow and maintain external youth outreach collaborations
- Utilize a variety of innovative educational tools, technology, and teaching approaches to enhance the learning experience
- Maintain open and transparent communication
- Assist with other outreach duties as assigned by the Manager
Qualifications
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a science‑related discipline
- Preferred education background, such as Teacher’s college candidates
- 3 years of youth outreach experience (including volunteer work with K‑12)
- Up to 1 year of youth mentorship or teaching experience, with engagement of underrepresented youth preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Slides, Forms), Canva
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills and self‑motivation
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to address and manage large groups of individuals (e.g., youth visitors)
- Experience with giving and receiving feedback and a lifelong learning attitude
- Oral and written French language ability is a valued asset
- Client‑service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and respect varied opinions, backgrounds, and characteristics
