Role Description
This is a fully remote role for Online Tutors at StudySmiths. In this position, you will deliver high-quality one-to-one or small-group online lessons to GCSE and A-Level students, adapting your teaching approach to suit each learner’s curriculum, ability level, and preferred learning style.
You will be responsible for planning and preparing engaging lesson content, explaining difficult concepts clearly, and providing students with targeted practice questions, revision strategies, and constructive feedback. Tutors are expected to monitor progress over time, identify areas for improvement, and help students build both subject confidence and exam technique.
At StudySmiths, we place a strong emphasis on creating genuine mentor-style relationships between tutors and students. We believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, understood, and supported, so we look for tutors who are approachable, patient, and able to build strong personal connections with learners while maintaining professionalism.
Day-to-day responsibilities will also include recording lesson notes and attendance through our online platform, communicating clearly with students and parents where appropriate, and maintaining a reliable and organised schedule.
Qualifications
We are looking for motivated and knowledgeable university students who are passionate about helping others succeed academically. Ideal candidates should have:
- Strong subject knowledge in one or more GCSE and/or A-Level subjects, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and accessibly.
- A* achievement in the subject(s) they wish to teach at A-Level or equivalent qualification.
- Current enrolment at a UK university.
- Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, teaching, coaching, or academic support is preferred but not essential.
- The ability to plan structured lessons and adapt teaching styles to suit different learners and abilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- A patient, encouraging, and professional approach to supporting students.
- Confidence using online teaching platforms and educational technology tools.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, including punctuality and accurate record-keeping.
- A commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students.
