Position: Off Campus Living Advisor
A Brief Overview
The Housing and Ancillary Services team manages 4,954 student beds in 18 residence buildings, three dining halls, numerous retail food service locations on campus, the Donald Gordon Hotel and Conference Centre, and Event Services. Residence buildings also provide temporary accommodations for the summer conference, events and tourism markets. In addition, the Community Housing team manages the off-campus rental apartment and housing properties which are student rental properties owned by Queen’s University.
This includes two apartment complexes located at west campus – An Clachan and John Orr Tower – as well as a variety of apartments and houses in the University District. Revenue and services from these units support vital student life programs and contribute to the University’s learning environment.
The Off-Campus Living Advisor supports Queen’s students—graduate, undergraduate, part-time, International, and exchange— with off-campus housing and related matters. With the goal of fostering independence, the Advisor provides students with skills and tools for resolving problems in the areas of housing and lifestyle that arise among students and landlords, students and Kingston residents, and/or students and students. The Advisor tracks local housing trends, including prices and housing development, to help inform decisions related to housing for students on and off campus.
The Advisor refers, as appropriate, potential instances of non-academic misconduct to the Non-Academic Misconduct Intake Office (NAMIO) for assessment.
This position provides subject matter expertise on the content, development and implementation of community programs. This position develops, recommends, plans, and organizes the design, launch, and implementation of outreach programs. This position identifies and recommends community program funding opportunities and partnerships. This position participates in the development and implementation of strategic plans, unit goals, and program policies. This position also directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.
