Position Summary
Grade level assignment within the K–2 range will be determined based on school need and candidate fit.
We are seeking a nurturing, highly structured Lower Elementary Teacher (Grades K–2) for the 2026–2027 school year. Lower elementary is a critical foundation year at MMSA Dequindre. Teachers in this role develop students’ reading, writing, and numeracy habits while establishing routines, independence, and positive academic behaviors.
The ideal candidate understands early literacy development, values consistent procedures, and believes strong classroom management and clear expectations are essential for student success.
Teachers receive ongoing support through instructional coaching and collaborative planning.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Implement structured literacy and foundational math practices
- Establish predictable classroom routines and behavior expectations
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners
- Monitor student progress using assessment data
- Maintain positive relationships with students and families
- Communicate regularly with parents through phone and email
- Implement IEPs, 504 plans, and intervention strategies in collaboration with support staff
- Participate in coaching cycles and grade-level collaboration
- Maintain accurate records for grading, attendance, and assessments
- Administer district and state assessments as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of early childhood and primary grade instructional practices
- Strong classroom management and routine-building skills
- Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction
- Ability to create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Strong organizational skills and professional responsibility
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with elementary endorsement required
- Experience teaching early elementary students preferred
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Passion for helping young students develop foundational academic habits
