CSAS provides tailored, research-driven coaching that includes modeling lessons, building instructional routines, analyzing data, and supporting educators in real time. Role Description The Literacy Coach Consultant – Grades K–5 is a part-time, on-site role based in Brooklyn, NY. In this role, the consultant collaborates with school leaders and teachers to support implementation of evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading and structured literacy frameworks. Day-to-day responsibilities include modeling effective K–5 literacy lessons, co-planning and refining curriculum, observing classroom instruction, and providing actionable feedback and coaching to educators. The consultant also analyzes student data to identify learning needs, helps design targeted interventions, and supports the development of consistent instructional routines. This role involves building strong professional relationships, facilitating small-group or whole-staff professional learning, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement in literacy outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in Literacy and K–5 reading instruction, including the Science of Reading and structured literacy approaches.
  • Experience with Curriculum Development for elementary literacy, including alignment to standards and high-quality instructional materials.
  • Strong Coaching skills, with a track record of supporting teachers through observation, feedback, modeling, and real-time instructional support.
  • Background in Education and Educational Leadership, preferably in K–5 settings, with the ability to collaborate effectively with school leaders and teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; advanced degree or specialized training in literacy instruction is preferred.
  • Successful classroom teaching experience in elementary grades, with evidence of improving student literacy outcomes.
  • Ability to use assessment and progress-monitoring data to guide instruction and intervention within MTSS or similar frameworks.
  • Preferred Experience: Heggerty, UFLI, Phonics for Reading, REWARDS and/or S.P.I.R.E.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work on-site in Brooklyn, NY on a part-time consulting schedule.
