The School of Health and Social Wellbeing is situated in the College of Health Science and Society at UWE, Bristol. The midwifery teaching team participate in teaching, assessing and supporting pre and post registration midwifery students and those from health and social care programmes across the School, as well as undertaking School and Faculty lead roles and contributing to the wider aspirations of UWE. UWE Bristol academics build their careers through a combination of learning and teaching, research, knowledge exchange, and external engagement at regional, national, and international levels. About You
We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring individual to join our successful, supportive and highly committed midwifery team. You will become part of a forward‑thinking School of Health and Social Wellbeing, contributing to our continued success through your dynamic, adaptable and innovative approach to teaching and learning.
Integral to our work is a strong commitment to enhancing the student experience through creative, inclusive and evidence-based approaches to teaching, learning, assessment and research. You will bring a high level of insight into contemporary midwifery practice, alongside experience of practice‑based education, enabling you to support students effectively across academic and practice settings.
You will have a sound knowledge of current policy, professional standards, and the theories and concepts that underpin midwifery practice and education. Registration as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is essential. You will have achieved, be working towards, or be willing to undertake a Master’s degree in a health‑ or education‑related discipline, and you will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to continuing professional development relevant to your role. You will also hold, or be willing to work towards, a recognised postgraduate qualification in higher education.
Enthusiasm for teaching and the ability to inspire and engage learners are central to this role. You will adopt a flexible and adaptable approach to teaching and demonstrate a clear commitment to enhancing the student experience across our programmes. A commitment to maintaining academic credibility and currency is expected. At Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, the role carries a strong focus on teaching excellence. Where is this role based?
UWE Bristol is a campus-based University, with vibrant campus communities that are central to student life. The midwifery team is based within the School of Health and Social Wellbeing , which is part of the College of Health, Science and Society . In this role, you’ll be based at our Glenside Campus which is set within beautiful grounds in Stapleton, just three miles north east of Bristol City Centre. Glenside Campus offers excellent teaching facilities, these include a selection of inter-professional simulation suites, enabling students to practice and develop professional competencies, and one of the best health care libraries in England. Regular bus services link the campus to the main Frenchay site, the city centre and surrounding areas, and nearby Bristol Parkway train station.
You’ll spend most of your time on campus, typically 3 days per week, with the opportunity to work from home on the remaining days.

Interviews are scheduled to take place at our Glenside Campus in the week commencing Monday 8 th June 2026.
There is a 1.0 FTE/full time post available, on a 12-month fixed term basis.
This post is available on a job share basis for applicants wishing to work part time.
This post requires basic DBS clearance.
