Job Description:

The Roger Williams University Department of Biology, Marine Biology & Environmental Science welcomes applications for a Lecturer Position in Human Anatomy & Physiology. The candidate selected for this position will focus on Human Anatomy & Physiology education and will enhance course offerings that prepare students for careers in biology, pre-professional health sciences, forensic science and public health.

The candidate should be a broadly trained biologist with a master’s degree or other advanced degree and a track record of excellence in teaching Human Anatomy & Physiology and health sciences at the undergraduate level. The ideal candidate will have substantive experience creating inclusive, engaged learning communities for Human Anatomy & Physiology, as well as for Introductory Biology, Human Nutrition, Exercise Science and/or General Science Education.

They will also possess demonstrated eFectiveness in the teaching laboratory environment, including curriculum development, revision, implementation and evaluation of laboratory learning outcomes. Professional experience in health sciences, or with human health-related research in academic or industrial settings, is essential to ground course work with perspectives from real world applications.

The standard teaching load for Lecturers is four classes per semester. At least three classes of that load will be devoted to Human Anatomy & Physiology Lecture and Laboratory each semester. The additional teaching assignment will depend on the expertise of candidate and include courses in Nutrition Science, Exercise Science, Freshman Biology, Genetics or some other related specialty. The Lecturer in Human Anatomy & Physiology will also serve as an academic advisor to a cohort of departmental advisees.

Requirements:

* Master’s or other advanced degree in Biology or related discipline.

* Undergraduate teaching experience in Human Anatomy & Physiology lecture and laboratory, and other course offerings such as Nutrition, Exercise Science, Freshman Biology or related courses that serve students of biology and/or pre-health professions.

* Relevant industry, research or work experience in the health sciences

* Substantive experience with laboratory curriculum development, implementation and revision

Highly Desired

Qualifications:

* Experience coordinating laboratory instruction among adjunct and full-time instructors.

* Training in innovative pedagogy to increase student engagement in science from diverse populations.
