Language Arts Instructor – Specialized 1-2 (Fall/Winter/Spring ) – 26-124

Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team is an opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! You will gain valuable work experience and learn new skills while delivering high‑quality programs, events, and services.

Responsibilities

  • Program design and delivery of language arts classes for preschool, children, youth, and adults (e.g., Spanish, French).
  • Assist the Recreation Programmer and/or Cultural Programmer with program descriptions and promotion.
  • Take attendance at each class and submit all paperwork promptly on the last day of the session.
  • Provide a program plan that includes equipment and supplies, development plans, and a multi‑level program for participants to continue if applicable.
  • Offer an individualized approach that assists participants with mastering skills and development within the program.
  • Liaise with programmers, participants, and parents to troubleshoot and discuss any issues or concerns with the program, facility, or participants.
  • Manage class time and preparation, arrive on time, ensure supplies and equipment are ready, safe, and properly set up before each class.
  • Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing, effective communication with participants and programmers.
  • Complete required health and safety paperwork for accidents, incidents, or facility issues, and elevate concerns as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Experience in language arts program design, development, and delivery in a recreational or school setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team effectiveness, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong customer service and administrative skills.
  • Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and at different sites as required.
  • Demonstrated time‑management skills and ability to prioritize demands, meet customer service standards, and meet deadlines.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C certification.
  • Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (for preschool‑youth classes).
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town.
  • Specialized 1 – Starting at $25.00:
    Program design and delivery of language arts for preschool or children.
  • Specialized 2 – Starting at $30.00:
    Responsible for program design and delivery of language arts for youth or adults; experience in language curriculum development.

Additional Notes

  • Rate of pay will be determined by Town of Newmarket staff based on applicant experience and/or program requirements.
  • Certifications are not required at application time but must be obtained prior to job commencement;
    Town may offer opportunities for certification.
  • Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through an AWB‑approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR‑C certification at their own cost.
