STEM Innovation Academy's Northwest Junior High seeks an exceptional Educational Assistant to make a meaningful impact supporting Grades 7–9 operations. Under the direction and supervision of the Principal, and the guidance of a teacher and/or Learning Leader, the Educational Assistant provides physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning support to students identified with mild, moderate and/or severe needs in a variety of settings within the school environment.

STEM Innovation Academy is a public charter school in Calgary serving Grades 7–12. Our Northwest Junior High campus, located in Calgary's University Innovation Quarter, serves 315 students in Grades 7-9 and continues to grow as one of Alberta's most in-demand STEM programs.

Our mission is to inspire the next generation to be knowledgeable creators, innovators, and responsible leaders. At the high school level, we combine rigorous academic programming with authentic STEM experiences, leadership development, and post-secondary pathways. Responsibilities

Student Support

  • In collaboration with the school learning team, design and implement individualized programs to meet the varied needs of identified students
  • Provide flexible support to students according to their changing needs
  • Support the building of the capacity of the school team in the areas of positive behaviour approach, social skill development; contribute to a positive school culture
  • Facilitate and encourage independence in all areas of a student's development
  • Demonstrate understanding of the diversity of student learning strengths and needs
  • Create opportunities for positive connections with classroom colleagues and staff; build a positive belonging within the school environment
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

Student Data Management

  • Collect data to understand student learning, behaviour, and support decision making
  • Based on data, regularly monitor and adapt program deliver, as necessary, and as determined by the school learning team

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

  • Support a positive learning environment for all students
  • Provide support, and timely response, to classroom teachers, the Student Services Team Lead, Administration, and families
  • Demonstrate positive listening and communication skills with team members to provide/receive information that may impact a student's progress
  • Demonstrate continuous learning in the areas of learning support, inclusive of the use of appropriate educational technologies and positive behaviour supports for students
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students and staff across a range of diverse learning needs

Qualifications

  • Hold a related post-secondary diploma or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
