’s Inclusive Education Teacher supports students to be socially successful and to be included academically in the classroom; designs student interventions; provides individualized and small-group learning support; assists in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs); and works collaboratively with teachers, educational assistants, and families.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Waldorf pedagogy, understanding of Kim John Payne’s Integrated Student Support framework, and has training and/or experience in Inclusive Education, including a working knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). This role supports the social and learning needs of students, contributing to a school culture that prioritizes safety, compassion, and belonging. Sunrise is seeking a caring, collaborative, and student-centered educator who:

  • Approaches their work through a compassionate, trauma‑informed, and developmentally grounded lens
  • Supports teachers in implementing inclusive instructional strategies and UDL
  • Has proven success supporting students both 1:1 and in small‑group settings
  • Understands child development principles from a Waldorf educational perspective
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, reflective practice, and clear, thoughtful communication
  • Navigates diverse learning and behavioural needs with calmness, clarity, and professionalism
  • Is committed to fostering warm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environments
  • Can lead and contribute to the full cycle of planning, assessment, documentation, and reporting

Key Responsibilities

Inclusive Education Programming

  • Maintain current knowledge of BC Inclusive Education policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to help teachers create accessible, flexible, and equitable learning environments for all students
  • Collaborate with teachers and EAs to design and implement universal and essential supports, including environmental modifications that promote inclusion
  • Provide targeted instructional and behavioural support for students requiring additional assistance, including small‑group and short‑term interventions
  • Participate actively in the school’s referral processes to support timely access to services
  • Facilitate training, co‑teach, model strategies, and coach teachers and EAs to build school‑wide capacity in inclusive and evidence‑based practices
  • Conduct and support school‑based assessments (Level‑B and/or Waldorf developmental assessments) within professional scope, gather learning data, and contribute to ongoing progress monitoring
  • Identify, curate, and share relevant instructional and learning resources with staff
  • Develop, update, and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring meaningful goal setting, alignment with student needs, and effective implementation
  • Facilitate communication and collaborative meetings with teachers, parents, and caregivers, ensuring meaningful participation in planning, problem‑solving, and placement decisions

Care Coordinating Group (CCG)

  • Chair and organize the CCG, ensuring all student referrals are tracked and appropriate supports are implemented
  • Set agendas, document minutes, and maintain an up‑to‑date weekly traffic report
  • Collaborate with teachers and the Education Director to create, monitor, and adjust individualized student support plans

Educational Assistant (EA) Management

  • Coordinate EA schedules and support resources in collaboration with the Education Director
