  • A new teacher induction academy will be held for all new licensed staff on Thursday, August 6 and Friday, August 7.

Qualifications

Valid and appropriate Illinois licensure.

  • Physical Education and Middle School Health endorsement required.
  • Complete required professional development to retain certification.
  • Successful completion of fingerprint based criminal background check (IL State Police and FBI), sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Assistant Principal

JOB GOAL (PE): To develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards, physical fitness, hygiene, and good health.

Duties And Responsibilities (pe)

  • Develops and administers Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports using the Illinois Learning Standards for Physical Development and Health.
  • Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of physiology, health and nutrition, biology and biological functions, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and the best ways to promote physical and mental well-being.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Assists in coordinating extracurricular activities, including student performances, assemblies, and athletic events.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within physical education and grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Inspects equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order.
  • Utilizes current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Utilizes knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Applies knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
  • Obtains knowledge of computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Organizes and coordinates work.
  • Communicates effectively with students and parents.
  • Engages in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal/assistant principal and other district office administrators as designated by the superintendent.
  • Adheres to a professional code of ethics which includes confidentiality of school related matters and loyalty to the school district.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Health)

  • Develops students' concepts in nutrition, food groups, diet, caloric intake, vitamins, and related topics.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
