Job Overview

• We are seeking committed, motivated students who are passionate about education and capable of delivering high-quality tutoring to learners of all ages. While previous tutoring experience—whether voluntary, mentoring-based, or through another organisation—is highly desirable, it is not essential; we welcome applicants who demonstrate a strong interest in learning and teaching, as full training and professional development will be provided. All tutors must hold a valid Enhanced DBS certificate that is registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one. Learning Champions Tutoring Limited will facilitate the process of acquiring a DBS, with the initial cost paid by the tutor; this typically includes a cost £57 for the certificate and £16 per year to maintain Update Service coverage.
• Academic excellence is an important part of our standards. Applicants must have strong performance in the relevant subject at A Level, with higher-level study in the subject considered desirable but not essential. In some cases, candidates with slightly lower grades may be considered depending on overall university performance. All applicants must be current undergraduate students studying a degree in their chosen subject or a closely related discipline. Due to the self-employed nature of the role, we are unable to accept applications from international students at this time.

• Applicants must also be able to provide a valid character reference from a reliable source, such as a university department, tutoring organisation, workplace, or similar. Through these requirements, we aim to ensure that our tutors are capable, dependable, and well-positioned to deliver exceptional educational support while upholding the standards and values of Learning Champions Tutoring.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualised lesson plans that cater to the unique learning styles and needs of each student.
• Educate students in specific subjects, ensuring comprehension and retention of material.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and educators to track progress and address any concerns.
• Foster a supportive and encouraging atmosphere that promotes learning and personal growth.
• Assess student performance regularly and adjust tutoring strategies accordingly to maximise effectiveness.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievements.

Skills

• Tutoring or mentoring experience is essential, and a reference may be requested.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with students and parents.
• Familiarity with the subject you wish to tutor.
• Ability to educate across various subjects, demonstrating expertise in the relevant areas (if applicable).
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed are crucial traits for this role.
• Strong organisational skills to manage lesson plans, schedules, and student records efficiently.

Key Criteria:

• Must be a UK Home Student Undergraduate or sixth former. No International Students will be accepted.
• Must be familiar or willing to familiarise themselves with Google Meet, Google Calendar, and online meeting tools.
• Must have a stable internet connection and access to relevant tutoring resources, both technological and study-based, such as books (books and workbooks can be provided in cases).
• Must be wanting to make a difference in the lives of children who require private tutoring outside of school, but struggle to obtain this due to financial and economic reasons.
• Must have achieved a grade 8/9 at GCSE for the subject you wish to tutor, AND an A/A* at A Level. Studying a relevant degree would also be brilliant but it is not essential and everyone has a fair chance at landing a role, regardless of what degree they study.

Pay Range:

Specific Pay Ranges for the roles are given below. These pay ranges are also contracted to you so will never be outside the range unless the contract changes.

• KS3/GCSE Science £10 – £15 per hour
• A Level Science £15 – £25 per hour

Pay is on a client-by-client basis; you will be paid a different rate for every student you tutor, depending on the economic factors the student faces.

Roles Available:

• Maths Tutor Position – KS3, GCSE and A Level Mathematics is essential. Further Mathematics at both GCSE and A Level is also a bonus. We will be continuously hiring for maths. If you are a sixth former, then you must doing Mathematics at A Level, and doing Further Mathematics would also be helpful.
• Science Tutor Position – KS3 and GCSE Science must include GCSE Physics, Biology and Chemistry. It is desirable for you to be able to tutor all 3 subjects at KS3 and GCSE and have a set of strong grades in them. For A Level, we are open to any science you wish tutor, including Psychology. However, you must be able to tutor for at least 1 science from Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Psychology at A Level. We will be continuously hiring for science.
• English Tutor Position – KS3 and GCSE Essential. A Level preferred. Must be able to tutor English Language AND/OR English Literature. For English Literature, you must have good knowledge of a selection of the set texts.
