The Clover School is committed to providing a truly child-centered, research aligned educational model by bringing Montessori’s methods and pedagogy into a 21st century urban learning environment that focuses on respect for child-centered inquiry, innovation and mastery of both skills and knowledge. The Clover School’s Lower Elementary Teacher is responsible for leading the implementation of the instructional program in a Lower Elementary (age 6 to 9 year) class and will work in collaboration with their co-teachers, School Directors and Administration to ensure that their students thrive in a safe, stimulating and nurturing Montessori environment.
As the Lead Teacher, you will be responsible for leading the planning and implementation of the Montessori core program and creating powerful learning experiences for your cohort of students. Our school offers progressive and researched based supplementation to the Montessori curriculum in the Arts, Athletics, Language Arts, Design and experiential Nature-based learning. All of our teachers are expected to either have expertise in these areas or be prepared to learn those approaches to complement the Montessori foundation. In addition, as a teacher at The Clover School, you will work with a leadership team that drives the development of our school as it grows in size and scope. Our goal at The Clover School is to demonstrate the power of the Montessori approach in delivering 21st century learning and preparation for ALL children. Qualifications:
The Lower Elementary Teacher will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Elementary Montessori certification and training from an AMI or MACTE accredited training institution
Expectations:
- Strong understanding of Montessori method and an ability to effectively integrate other best practices with the Montessori method
- Strong understanding of Literacy and Math development in children and able to build children’s individual learning plans that identify their zones of proximal development and build upon their understanding and interests
- Strong understanding of appropriate instructional strategies
- Effective and respectful management of classroom culture
- Strong understanding of how to use multiple forms of assessment in informing and driving instruction
- Able to build immediate and loving rapport with children of all ages, strong understanding of child development
- Passion for teaching and working with children. Specific knowledge and understanding of the needs of students from different experiences, languages and backgrounds
- Must be a driven adult learner dedicated to their own professional growth with an inquiry orientation to their own practice
- Able to provide leadership and serve as a mentor to new teachers and student teachers
- Enthusiasm and commitment to participating in a cooperative effort to contribute to The Clover School’s growth as a community.

- A strong knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum Standards and an assurance that each student is working towards meeting or exceeding these expectations, within a Montessori context
- An understanding of the Ministry of Education’s licensing requirements and a commitment to follow these requirements in the classroom and school within a Montessori context
- A commitment to the health (mental and physical), and safety of each student
Responsibilities:
- Establish an inspiring classroom setting that is beautiful, organized, tidy and engaging, with systems and procedures that manage student behavior, movement and learning
- Complete a weekly scheduled cleaning of the classroom environment
- Establish a powerful classroom culture where children have high expectations for themselves and for others, are self-motivated and self-directed, have pride in themselves and in their community, care about themselves and their community and where children value and love learning
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans, small and whole group lessons and classroom activities consistent with TCS instructional guidelines, using Transparent Classroom
- Create and post a class weekly schedule
- Create a yearly curriculum overview for each level and hand-in to the Vice-Principal before the start of the school year
- Responsible for organizing an annual dramatic performance with class
- Through regular observation and assessment strategies, examine student progress and refine learning plans to differentiate instruction for each student’s optimal learning and growth
- Collaborate with TCS team members to improve own and others’ instructional practices; shares best practices
- Actively participate in all professional development activities, help to plan and implement school activities involving family participation, parties, concerts, picnics, guest speaking events etc.), attend all parent meetings, team and level meetings, and organize one afterschool club per year as well as attend one open house per year
- Provide students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress, find ways to involve parent/guardians in their child’s education
- Identify unique student needs and collaborate with other team members and outside service providers to address learning challenges
- Demonstrate knowledge of and support of TCS’ mission, vision, values, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards and professionally ethical behaviour
- Professionalism and support of the School and its practices when representing TCS to prospective and enrolled families and to the community at large
- Responsible for maintaining daily attendance records, and lesson record keeping using Transparent Classroom on a bi-weekly at minimum basis
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of classroom materials.
- Maintain an inventory record of the classroom, keep everything well-stocked and in good working order
- Prepare student Progress Reports and meet with parents two times during the year for scheduled Parent Teacher Conferences
- Be available to meet with parents either by phone or in person at the request of either the parent or the teacher
- Parent phone calls and emails are to be returned promptly each day, outside of classroom hours within a 24-hour period
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of each student in the school
- Write a class newsletter each month for the parents
- Supervise recess/lunch times where necessary.
- Train and supervise the children in the execution of fire and lockdown drills each month

Compensation Range: $50,000-$60,000 CAD per year
