POSITION: Lower School Classroom Teacher (Grade 4) – TEMPORARY

WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, with a one-hour lunch break

REPORTS TO: LS Principal and Assistant Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time temporary position to cover maternity leave during the first semester of the 2026–2027 school year, under a fixed-term contract

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Teachers at the American School of Brasília play a central role in delivering high-quality education aligned with the school’s mission and international standards. The school seeks experienced and qualified educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching and a commitment to continuous professional growth.

All candidates must hold appropriate academic qualifications for teaching at the elementary level, in accordance with Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) requirements. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education (Pedagogia) or a related field with teaching qualification, as required by MEC regulations
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in elementary or primary education
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) to teach and communicate effectively in an English-language instructional environment
  • Teaching experience certified for the subject to be taught
  • Possess knowledge of set curriculum grounded in relevant standards and benchmarks
  • Demonstrate understanding of how to work collaboratively within a team structure, e.g. work within a professional learning communities (PLCs) structure
  • Demonstrate use of an inquiry-based approach to instruction 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in supporting students’ wellness, especially in social and emotional growth 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of instructional technology practices that support rather than replace quality instruction 
  • Demonstrate ability to be a reflective practitioner capable of offering and receiving feedback

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Personify and promote the school’s mission, vision, and character/learner traits 
  • Cultivate collaborative and culturally respectful relationships with team members and within the school’s entire learning community
  • Collaborate within teams to promote high-functioning learning structures
  • Assist the team in ordering and maintaining sufficient educational materials and supplies throughout the school year
  • Engage in a growth model of instructional practice that supports students in reaching their potential
  • Analyze formative and summative classroom data and standardized testing results in order to deliver appropriate and individualized instruction
  • Provide authentic and rich opportunities for students to engage in project-oriented work using inquiry-based learning strategies 
  • Develop and sustain a classroom environment rooted in positive reinforcement that focuses on the social and emotional well-being of each student and the larger school community
  • Cultivate highly effective partnerships with parents that affirm and embrace cultural responsiveness

  • Promotes positive interactions among students, parents, faculty and staff who have differing cultural, linguistic, and national backgrounds.
