About the Role

This role leads the development of professional learning, resources, and specialist support for Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) to meet the needs of EAL/D students, with a strong focus on newly arrived learners requiring intensive English instruction. Key responsibilities include:

  • designing and delivering high‑impact, evidence‑based professional learning and resources to support Newly Arrived and EAL/D students, working collaboratively with the Curriculum and Innovation Team
  • building teacher capability in identifying, assessing and monitoring New Arrival and EAL/D learners to inform whole‑school practice
  • providing ongoing school support through consultation, classroom observation and collaborative planning to develop high‑challenge, high‑support learning programs
  • supporting schools in establishing effective structures for new arrivals and refugee students, including strengthening relationships with Intensive English Centres
  • analysing school, network and system data to provide insights, identify trends and inform improvement strategies for EAL/D and Newly Arrived learners
  • upholding SCS’s mission, values and child‑safety commitments in all work.

About You

The successful candidate will also possess the following:

  • a NESA‑recognised teaching qualification with at least five years’ school experience and demonstrated practice at Highly Accomplished or Lead level
  • proven success in leading professional learning, improving student outcomes, and implementing whole‑school New Arrival and EAL/D initiatives
  • skills in using data analysis to inform practice and confident in articulating contemporary educational trends locally and internationally
  • the ability to work with sensitive information, proficient in technology, and committed to maintaining high professional standards
  • a current driver’s licence and access to a car
  • willingness to respect, support, and uphold the mission, ethos, and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of SCS.

Desirable

  • postgraduate qualification in Education or related discipline
  • middle leadership experience in a school
  • previous experience in an Intensive English Centre (IEC) or similar organisation
  • knowledge of Catholic Systemic Schools/Systems.
