Role Description The Early Years Teaching Assistant will support teaching and learning within the nursery and early years classes in this full-time, on-site role based in Romford. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting the class teacher in delivering age-appropriate activities, helping to set up and maintain engaging learning environments, and supporting children’s social, emotional, and academic development. The role involves supervising children during lessons, playtime, and transitions, promoting positive behavior, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all pupils. The Early Years Teaching Assistant will contribute to observations and records of children’s progress, communicate effectively with staff and families as required, and participate in school events, meetings, and professional development. Collaboration with colleagues to uphold the school’s values and high standards of care and education is a key component of this role.
Qualifications
- Experience working with early years or primary-aged children in an educational or childcare setting.
- Relevant early years or teaching assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 in Early Years Education, Childcare, or equivalent), or progress towards such a qualification.
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and play-based learning approaches.
- Ability to support classroom activities, including small-group work, one-to-one support, and differentiated learning.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to engage positively with children, colleagues, and families.
- Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and promoting the welfare of all pupils.
- Organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to follow routines and school policies consistently.
- Positive, patient, and proactive attitude, with a willingness to learn and participate in ongoing training.
- Desirable: Experience in independent schools or nurseries, and familiarity with early years frameworks and assessment practices.
