The Role
The Studio School is seeking an experienced Early Childhood Head Teacher for our mixed-age Fours and Fives classroom. This role leads a supported teaching team and sets the tone for a calm, structured, and emotionally grounded classroom where children feel safe, challenged, and known.
This is a hands-on teaching role for someone who loves early childhood, understands group dynamics, and brings steady leadership to the classroom.
Classroom Overview
- Mixed-age Fours and Fives
- 16–18 students currently; 14–16 projected next year
- Team includes a Head Teacher, Assistant Teacher, and additional special education support
- Strong administrative and instructional support
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily classroom instruction using an interdisciplinary, developmentally informed approach
- Establish clear routines, expectations, and boundaries that support independence and emotional regulation
- Facilitate group-based learning with attention to thinking, feeling, and collaboration
- Teach PE as part of the classroom program
- Observe, document, and assess student growth using narrative and developmental assessment, not grades
- Collaborate closely with learning support staff to meet diverse needs
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with families
- Supervise and partner with the Assistant Teacher and support staff
- Prepare the classroom daily and plan after school
- Participate in weekly meetings and occasional school events outside the student day
Schedule
- Fully onsite
- Student day: 8:30 AM–2:45 PM
- Teacher workday typically begins around 7:50 AM and ends once the classroom is set for the next day
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of early childhood teaching experience
- Master’s degree in Education required
- Master’s degree in Special Education preferred
- Strong knowledge of child development
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Commitment to reflection, feedback, and professional growth
- Teaching license or relevant coursework preferred

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $62,000–$72,000
- Paid monthly, year-round
