The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

Make a lasting impact in the lives of former refugee learners. AUT is seeking a dedicated and experienced New Zealand registered ECE teacher to join our team at the Refugee Education Centre. This is a unique opportunity to support newly arrived former refugee children during their initial five-week orientation programme in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The education programme operates in five-week cycles aligned with refugee intakes. The role is a parental leave 0.8 position. A key focus of this role is to prepare children and their whanau for successful transition into New Zealand school life, equipping them with the foundational skills, confidence and cultural understanding needed to thrive in their new learning environments.

Experience supporting indigenous, equity, or inclusion focused initiatives is highly desirable.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have

  • More than two years experience in a similar role/ field
  • You will be a flexible, empathetic educator with:
  • A strong understanding of ESOL principles (qualification desirable).
  • Experience working with former refugees, migrants, or learners with additional needs.
  • Excellent intercultural communication skills.
  • Knowledge of a second or third language (advantageous).
  • New Zealand teacher registration
