Role Description The Design Studio Tutor is a on-site role based in Wellington. This role involves guiding students through studio-based design integration projects, providing feedback on their work, and supporting them in developing technical knowledge on integrating structural design, construction drawings and services integration, in their 400-level design studio. The tutor facilitates studio sessions, leads small group discussions, and offers one-to-one support to help learners refine their process and presentations. Responsibilities include preparing teaching materials, coordinating with academic staff to align studio activities with course objectives, and contributing to the safe, inclusive, and collaborative environment of the studio. The role may also involve supporting assessments, attending staff meetings, and participating in curriculum development where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Strong design skills and experience working in studio-based environments in practice.
- Interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and motivate a diverse range of learners.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including planning studio activities and managing multiple student projects simultaneously.
- Experience in teaching, mentoring, or tutoring in higher education or similar settings, or equivalent experience guiding design teams.
- A relevant qualification in design, architecture, visual communication, or a closely related discipline (Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred).
- Commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory practices and to supporting a positive, safe, and collaborative studio culture.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic and professional staff and to contribute constructively to course and studio improvement.
