Family Centered Services of Alaska (FCSA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1989 by Fairbanks, Alaska community members committed to helping children with a wide spectrum of behavioral and mental health needs. Today, FCSA has over 100 employees dedicated to our mission of providing unconditional care to children and their families.
FCSA provides behavioral and mental health services to youth aged 5-19. Services include outpatient therapy, education, foster care, and short or long-term residential treatment. FCSA is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and was one of the first organizations to be licensed by the state to establish, recruit, and monitor foster homes.
Smart Start Learning Center is a subsidiary of FCSA and provides daytime care to families in our community. Employees of FCSA are eligible to enroll their children in childcare services and enjoy a discount on their monthly tuition (contingent on enrollment availability).
About the Job
Family Centered Services of Alaska is seeking a dedicated Math Teacher to join our team. In this unique role, you’ll provide academic instruction and support to students with mental health challenges, integrating their individual treatment plans into the classroom setting.
Responsibilities
Educational & Milieu Treatment Responsibilities
1. Provide direct group and individualized instructions in all curriculum areas: GED preparation, and individualized education program goals and objectives.
2. Designs and administers both group and individualized achievement tests in all achievement areas, including English, Math, Science, and History. Career education and other aptitude/interest inventories, basic achievement areas including reading, spelling, vocational aptitude, and interest.
3. Collaborates with the Special Education Teacher with developing instructional objectives for students’ IEP’s.
4. Implements the curriculum by reviewing the FNSB School District curriculum documents along with IEP goals.
5. Meets with other staff to coordinate schedules and other activities.
6. Administers time out procedures.
7. Provide crisis intervention as needed.
8. Become completely familiar with each student’s Individualized Treatment Plan and implement activities.
9. Accurately observe student behavior and assist in developing or modifying behavior plans as needed.
10. Assist in planning and implementing recreational and/or arts and crafts activities.
11. Assist in determining and ordering of books and materials needed for educational programs.
Administrative Responsibilities
1. Participate with the program manager and the teaching staff with the coordination of reporting and documentation requirements relative to student performance, grading, and credit transfer to the local school district.
2. Participate with program manager and teaching staff with the evaluation of transcripts and school records of newly admitted students to determine their educational needs.
3. If designated, serves as the Program Manager in their absence.
4. Attend staff meetings, trainings, teleconferences, IEP meetings, child study team meetings, Treatment Team meetings, and court hearings.
5. Communicate with community professionals as required, including police, medical personnel, parents, and social service agency personnel, etc.
6. Maintain daily reporting and charting on students.
7. Completes incident reports.
8. Record administration of medications.
9. Responsible for keys issued.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, focusing on math and/or science.
- Current State of Alaska teaching certificate accepted by Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.
- Experience working with students with mental health disabilities preferred.
- Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
- Certified in Managing Aggressive Behavior or willing to be certified.
- Commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
This position is a driving position. Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.
All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulations and must pass a State of AK Background Check.
